Bad excuses for missing work, better snack choices at the movies, Fab Five, and more!

May 20, 2013 -- 8:46am

The worst excuses for missing work and why bosses don't believe them:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2326164/Sex-injuries-split-trousers-sore-fingers-The-ridiculous-real-excuses-people-taking-day-work.html

We played Fab Five this morning, and after a little help from some other people Joshua Miranda of Bolingbrook was able to knock down the remaining questions to win a DVD/Blu-ray combo pack of the new movie, Side Effects!

Which snack is worse at the movies from ivillage.com:

Popcorn vs. Nachos with Cheese

Answer: Nachos with Cheese is worse! Bright-orange artificial cheese that’s high in saturated fat is what you get with a serving of nachos. Instead, get a small popcorn without the fake ‘butter’ topping and you’ll get one serving of whole grains.

Hot Dog vs. Corn Dog

Answer: Hot Dog is worse. Either the hot dog or the corn dog will set you back about 200 to 300 calories. But typically, the coating on a corn dog is made from some type of corn, which is a whole grain, so it has slightly more nutritional value than the white bun. Just slightly...

Twizzlers vs. Junior Mints

Answer: Twizzlers! The Junior Mints have a tiny advantage over the Twizzlers because they are covered in some semblance of dark chocolate, and research has shown that mint flavoring curbs appetite, so you may not feel the need to eat the whole box.

Sweet Iced Tea vs. Lemonade

Answer: Lemonade is awful for you! The lemonade just doesn’t have anything to offer besides sugar. Iced tea at least provides some antioxidants from the tea leaves. An even better choice: Ask for unsweetened iced tea, which is increasingly available and won’t set you back any calories.

You've got chances all week long to win dinner for two at The Reserve Steakhouse inside Harrah's Casino! We played it this morning, and Joel Ludtke of New Lenox was caller #9! Just listen for the sound of the jackpot throughout the day to win!

May 17, 2013 -- 8:55am

Twitter is one of the best ways to reach a company:

7th Heaven lead singer Anthony Fedorov joined us for the final time to talk American Idol, and on last night's finale, Candace took the win over Kree! Last week, Anthony said he thought Kree would win because the country music vote is so strong, but he wanted Candace to win. It was the first incorrect prediction he had all season, and he was glad he was wrong!

On Monday, we'll get you back to work with Fab Five at 7:05, and give you a chance to win a DVD/Blu-ray combo pack of the new movie, Side Effects! Also, we'll help you make some good decisions at the movies!

Motivate yourself to work out, Disney backtracks, Way or No Way, and more!

May 16, 2013 -- 8:47am

We were pretty surprised to find out that Julia Louis-Dreyfus is worth more than Oprah. Apparently, she's worth $3 billion, because her family is loaded. In 1851, her great-great grandfather founded the Louis Dreyfus Group, a commodities and shipping multinational that they control to this day. Thanks to that, she's worth more than Tyler Perry, Diddy, Bono, Madonna, Dr. Dre, Will Smith and Ryan Seacrest COMBINED.

5 Ways To Motivate Yourself To Work Out from womenshealth.com

First, schedule sessions with a trainer. This seems obvious, but if you commit weeks in advance to an actual appointment where someone’s expecting you, you basically HAVE to show up.

Second, start a work-buddy system. People plan to work out after a day at the office, but then talk themselves out of it by the end of the day! Find a few people in the office with similar fitness goals, and make a pact to keep tabs on each other.

Another tip: splurge on cute workout gear. Gym gear that plays up your assets can give you serious motivation and make you want to put the outfit to good use. If you look and feel good, you’ll want to show off, and of course paying a good amount of money for super flattering workout clothes definitely makes you want to get your dollar’s worth.

Leave important things in your gym locker. If you accidentally-on-purpose forget to bring your hairdryer and make-up bag home after a gym session, you'll HAVE to go back the next day to get ready. Half the challenge is getting in the door, so the more reasons you give yourself to stop by, the better.

Last, get a vacation on the books ASAP. Most people rev up their workout routines right before taking a big trip, so wherever you're going this summer, get your reservations nailed down as soon as you can.

We played Way or No Way, and Mark Kazak of Joliet got 3 out of 4 correct to win a gift certificate to Choo Choo Johnny's, and a DVD/Blu-ray combo pack of Beautiful Creatures!

Disney suffered a huge backlash when they glammed up Merida, the heroine of the movie "Brave," in order to add her to their "Princesses" marketing line. And so yesterday, they caved. Without commenting, they dropped the new version of Merida and brought back the original one, as she appeared in the movie. As the website Jezebel.com notes, the other 10 princesses have also been subjected to sexist redesigns, including, "lots of makeup, hair extensions, plumped-up lips, breast implants, cheek injections, and an inordinate amount of glitter."

Tomorrow, you get to take control at 7:05 and choose your game with You Pick It. It's your last chance to win dinner and a movie: a gift certificate to Choo Choo Johnny's, and a DVD/Blu-ray combo pack of Beautiful Creatures! And with tonight's American Idol finale, we'll be joined one more time by 7th Heaven lead singer Anthony Fedorov at 8:05, and we'll see if his prediction of Kree winning it all was right!
